MSP Urges support for Combat Stress

Published date : 05 Mar 2017

Jeane Freeman, MSP for Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley has urged constituents to support the work of military charity Combat Stress following a visit to their treatment centre, Hollybush House in Ayr.

Combat Stress is the UK’s leading mental health charity for veterans, treating a range of conditions including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression and anxiety.

Combat Stress has been shortlisted for the Soldiering On Sunday Express Peoples’ Choice Award, in recognition of the outstanding work they do with people who served their country.

Jeane Freeman said;

“I was immensely impressed by the work of Combat Stress when I visited their rehabilitation centre at Hollybush.  The specialist treatment provided, tailored for the specific needs of servicemen and women, is a much needed service and it’s great to see how the beautiful Ayrshire countryside contributes to the healing of these brave men and women.

“I hope that people in Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley will show their support for Combat Stress by voting in the Peoples’ Choice Award.”

Sue Freeth, Chief Executive of Combat Stress, said: “We greatly welcomed the opportunity to show Jeane around Hollybush, explaining the vital work we do to help veterans across Scotland overcome trauma and rebuild their lives.

“We are thrilled to be nominated for a Soldiering On People’s Choice Award. In the last five years we have seen a 71% increase in referrals, with our services more in demand than ever before. With the public voting for us to win this award it will help to raise awareness of Combat Stress’ work and the issue of veterans’ mental health, thereby enabling us to reach out to more veterans in need of support.”

To vote for Combat Stress, send a postcard to Soldiering On Peoples Choice Awards, Sunday Express, 10 Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EN and include your name and address.
