Press Release

East Ayrshire Council - Adverse Weather Update

Published date : 17 Jan 2018

Housing Asset Services

Appointed emergency repairs were carried out with each vehicle double manned. The teams were able to access all calls.  Gas servicing were double manned and were all completed today.

In the South and Doon Valley Operatives were engaged in clearing footpaths and were able to support the communities in New Cumnock, Patna, Dalmellington, Cumnock and Auchinleck.

A team meeting will take place early on Thursday where the weather situation will be assessed the required plans for the day put into place.

Standby this evening (Wednesday) will deal in in the South only those calls that are an emergency will be attended in outlying villages due to the ongoing issues with minor roads within the schemes.

All standby vehicles will be double manned as an additional safety precaution again this evening.

Waste Management

Collection services recommenced at 11:00 am in the North of the area only.  Some areas were still inaccessible.  Due to tonight’s forecast, the situation will be assessed first thing tomorrow morning (Thursday) and a decision taken about the safest course of action.  Residual waste collections will be prioritised.

Outdoor Services

All programmed work was suspended today and teams assisted Roads by clearing and gritting Priority 1 in the South. The priority 1 routes include the main strategic and main distributor roads and include all the A class roads.

ALL schools and establishments in East Ayrshire will be closed on Thursday 18 January.

This extends to primaries, secondaries, early childhood centres and special needs establishments, and to organisations who use these facilities out of hours.

This is in response to an amber weather warning for more snow and ice coming our way this evening and into tomorrow morning, which will worsen current conditions.

We have taken this decision following advice from partners and colleagues in education, roads and transportation, and in the interests of ensuring the safety of pupils, parents, staff and carers.

The situation will be closely monitored tomorrow (Thursday) before any decisions are taken for Friday.
